WESTERN EUROPE: VOD MARKET TO REACH EUR 30.5 BILLION IN 2027

A REPORT BY ITMEDIA CONSULTING SHOWCASED THAT THE STREAMING MARKET IN THE REGION IS SHOWING THE FIRST CLEAR SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN ITS GROWTH AS A RESULT OF THE NUMEROUS FACTORS THAT WILL EMERGE IN THE COMING YEARS. 

[...] Paid VoD (SVoD & TVoD) is expected to plateau, with projected 3% growth (adjusted for inflation) over the next three years. Only sports streaming is forecast to maintain positive growth, playing a larger role in VoD offerings. Ad-supported VoD (AVoD) is poised to be the key driver of future growth, with a projected 10 per cent CAGR. However, this increase is lower than previously anticipated, particularly from 2026 onwards.[...]

[...].In the meantime, video consumption on the big social platforms — You Tube, TikTok and Instagram — is growing strongly, with users spending more time on these platforms each year and this viewing by default impact time spent with subscription video. Indeed, social video viewing as well as video games became part of the larger video sector in the new digital ecosystem where all the digital media compete for the consumer’s attention, the only scarce and increasingly contestable resource.[...].
